[...] Connecting Heritage is a modular outdoor bench system for UNESCO heritage sites. It aims to be placed at heritage sites that recently broke down, and is in the process of being restored. For the restoration, UNESCO aims to involve the local community of craftspeople and engineers to realise it. The structure exists mostly out of concrete, wherein remaining rubble of a broken heritage site is mixed. It creates a bench that is fully emerged in this site, and connects the community around this site.
Rather than creating a finished product, Connecting Heritage is a website that gives measurements to local engineers. This way, different views on craft and architecture can be implemented, depending on the heritage sites. Still, some examples of the bench in context are given.
Created in 'A hands-on Design Lab', a course at Design Academy Eindhoven, where students dissect a certain material or production method, and create a concept to pitch to a chosen client.
